maybe I’m someone else in another universe

I always wonder if the multiverse is real. Because if it is, I just know there’s another version of me somewhere. Maybe she’s a detective.

A hot one who’s so smart they have to call her in as a consultant.

She walks in looking sexy, she’s ridiculously intelligent, I can totally imagine myself like that. Or maybe… I already am in a different universe.

Maybe she’s a Leo woman with an Aquarius Moon and a little bit of Scorpio somewhere. Probably Mars.

And maybe in another life, I’d be a mom. I actually think I’d be pretty good at it.

Which is funny, because in this life I’m not even sure I want kids. But those thoughts come up a lot.

I can genuinely see myself being a good mom… but only if I didn’t have to worry about money anymore.

Or maybe, like I said, that’s just another version of me in another universe.

Sometimes I wonder if the multiverse is real just because I keep imagining all these different lives I could’ve lived.

All these fake scenarios where my life turned out completely different.

Maybe deep down I want my life to look different. Or maybe I’m just curious about all the people I could’ve become if life had gone another way.

Sometimes I wonder if all those versions of me are wondering the exact same thing.

Maybe she’s looking at me thinking,

God… I wish I could write like she does. I wish I saw the world the way she does. I wish I had her friends. I wish I learned to love people the way she does.

And maybe that’s the funny thing about being human. We always think the life we didn’t get would’ve been the better one.

Would I still be me?

Would I still write?

Would I still laugh at my own jokes?

Would I still fall in love with strangers for three weeks?

Who knows.

I don’t think I imagine these different lives because I want to escape this one. I think I’m just fascinated by how one tiny decision could create an entirely different person.

One different city.

One different friend.

One different “yes.”

And maybe I’d have different scars.

Different dreams.

Different stories.

But maybe I’d still be sitting somewhere wondering who I could’ve been.

I love this life.

Truly.

Dearly.

Passionately.

Even the messy parts.

Which feels weird to admit because I’ve been through things I never deserved. Things I wish had never happened.

But somehow… those experiences shaped me into the person I am today. I found my own meaning after they happened.

Maybe that’s why I have so much love to give now. Because I know what it feels like when love is missing.

I know what it feels like to wonder if anyone will notice you.

To wonder if anyone will stay.

So when I see people finding each other… I get emotional.

Friends.

Partners.

Communities.

I genuinely love watching people connect.

I believe we naturally find people who speak the same emotional language as us.

You meet someone, and something just clicks.

You don’t have to explain every part of yourself.

You don’t have to make yourself smaller.

You just… belong.

And I think that’s one of the nicest feelings a person can have.

It makes me ridiculously happy.

Sometimes I’m happier watching other people fall in love, become friends, or simply find their people than I am watching a movie.

I don’t know.

Maybe that’s my favorite part about being human. Knowing that out of eight billion people, we somehow keep finding each other.

Maybe in another universe, I’m solving murders.

Maybe in another one, I’m raising kids.

Maybe in another one, I don’t write at all.

But in this one… I get to love people. I get to wonder. I get to imagine all the lives I could’ve lived…

And I think that’s a pretty beautiful life.

  1. This was really beautiful to read. I love all the questioning you provide for yourself but a sense of establishment or conviction underlies the whole thing. You’re not afraid or regretful, you’re just curious.

    1. Thank you so much. That means a lot. I really love the way you put that “not afraid or regretful, just curious.” I think that’s exactly where I’m trying to be these days.
